Walking Tours of the North End with Hannah Diozzi

Saturday, March 28 & Saturday, April 18

Join local guide Hannah Diozzi (of Salem Strolls and Boston by Foot) for a walking tour of Boston’s famous North End, site of the Great Molasses Flood.

The ticket price of $20.00 includes the tour and bus transportation from Medford. There will be time for lunch on your own in the North End after the tour. Buses will leave Medford City Hall at 10:00 a.m., and will return around 3:00 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at the Medford Public Library on a first come, first served basis.

Boston's North End

A Lecture by Anthony Sammarco

Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Medford Public Library

Join local historian and author Anthony Sammarco for a look at the history, sites, sounds, and traditions of Boston’s famous North End.

Medford native Anthony Sammarco is the author of over 25 books on Massachusetts history.

The Golden Door (2006)

Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Medford Public Library

The Italian film "Golden Door" ("Nuovomondo") is set at the beginning of the 20th century in Italy and on the ocean crossing to the United States. The film depicts the hardships of life in Italy, as well as the difficulties of the cross-oceanic passage and quarantine period in Ellis Island.

Many of the residents of the North End who experienced the Molasses Flood made the journey to Ellis Island.

This film is part of a series sponsored by the Medford Public Library and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford's Task Force on Immigration.

A State of Extremes: From Banned Books to Birth Control

Tuesday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Medford Public Library

The Molasses flood was only one of many notable events in Massachusetts history. Join Christopher Kenneally (author of Massachusetts 101 : The 101 Events That Made Massachusetts History) for a fun, fact-filled look at some of the surprising and sometimes scandalous events that made Massachusetts what it is.
