In March and April of 2009, the Medford Public Library will be sponsoring the first Medford Community Read. We will be encouraging people to read the same book take part in discussions, lectures, and other events. The book we selected is Dark Tide by Stephen Puleo, which is about the Great Molasses Flood in the North End of Boston in 1919. The author, Stephen Puleo, lives in the area, and is scheduled to appear at Tufts on April 27 to round off the Community Read season. We will also be using a children's book called Joshua's Song by Joan Hiatt Harlow, which is about the Molasses Flood. This book will allow younger audiences to be included in the Read. A Community Read is a great way to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to share a common experience. It doesn't ask for a great commitment beyond reading a book! |
Copies of the books can be borrowed and purchased at the Medford Public Library. Click HERE for the Library catalog. Click HERE for other resources.
The Transcript will be helping with our publicity efforts by printing a series of "Medford Reads" photos featuring local people and copies of the Community Read books. We'd love to include you, your family, or your group. To arrange for a photo op, contact Mary Sbuttoni at (781) 393-9893 or msbuttoni@aol.com Click HERE for our photo gallery!

The exhibit tells many stories, and will provide a fascinating backdrop for the kick-off. Tickets are $25.00 and are on sale at the Medford Public library. Space is limited. |
